Perth Case Study: Glenalmond School
At Clockwork we regularly work with schools, colleges and universities across our nationwide network, from moving classroom space to clearing libraries, we are no stranger to the education system. However, the Glenalmond College move was a bit out of the ordinary and a key moment in the school’s history.
When Dr Michael Alderson was appointed Warden, (Headteacher of the school), not only did he start during the beginning of a national lockdown but he was moved into temporary accommodation. The reason for the temporary accommodation was a renovation programme of the old apartments in the original school building, which were being used as offices. The idea was to create a home for the warden in the heart of the school and move Dr Alderson back to where previous wardens had once lived, a significant milestone for the school.
The move was literally 1,000 metres from the temporary property to the school and was completed over 2 days, one day to pack and the other day to move. However, to minimise any disruption to the working day or to avoid any time out for the Warden and his incredibly demanding job, it was key that this move was completed at certain times of the day. The Warden’s house was packed during the school hours and there was no movement of vehicles during break times or meal times to keep school roads free for staff and pupil use. We also used our smaller vehicles from the fleet, which was better for both access and noise during the school day.
The Warden’s house borders the original School Quad, built in the Victorian Gothic era. This meant that there was a lot of disassembling and re-assembling of furniture in order to navigate the corridors and staircases of this beautiful old building. We are delighted that Glenalmond College were so pleased with their move saying, “Many thanks to the team from Clockwork Removals and Storage, who have been helping Dr Alderson and his wife with their move into the Warden’s House – everything has gone like Clockwork!”
