It is National Skyscraper Day on 3rd September and in recognition of this very quirky “awareness day” we have put together a list of some of the world’s tallest buildings you can actually live in – we hope you aren’t too scared of heights!
Burj Khalifa, Dubai – Currently the tallest man made structure on earth, the Burj Khalifa measures 2,722 ft and took six years to construct costing a whopping $1.5 billion. It is an award winning structure with 163 floors comprising of a hotel, offices, private residences and a breathtaking observation deck. Thought to be one of the world’s most prestigious address’s the Khalifa is home to 900 apartments, the highest being right up on the 108th floor!
Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower – At one time this awe inspiring tower was the world’s tallest building but it was overtaken by the Burj Khalifa and it now sits at the number three spot behind the Shanghai Tower. That said it is still a record breaker in its own right laying claim to the title of the World’s highest Clock Tower and at 1,972 ft it dwarf’s Big Ben’s 315 ft. The tower complex consists of a 5-star hotel, 5 storey shopping mall, two heliports and a vast number of private residences and in total it can house up to 100, 000 people.
Q1, Surfers Paradise – Q1 is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere and is one of the tallest all-residential buildings in the world. Q1’s architecture was inspired by the Olympic torch at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and by the world famous Sydney Opera House. The tower consists of 72 floors of apartments including penthouses on the 72nd floor with stunning views over the Pacific Ocean. The building is also home to some fantastic facilities for its residents including two lagoon swimming pools, a lap pool, gym, theatre, ballroom and spa centre.
The Shard, London – The Shard is the tallest Building in the EU comprising of 87 floors with an open air viewing deck on the 72nd floor which is definitely not for the faint hearted! The Shard is thought of as a “vertical city” where people can live, work and relax comprising of offices, restaurants, a 5-star hotel and 12 floors of luxury apartments.
