Case Study: Beacon Food Bank

Beacon Food Bank, Hampshire

Beacon Food Bank is a church-based, independent, charitable operation which has been helping people in need since 2009 and has grown massively over time.  20-25 hampers are given out each week throughout the year on top of what is done as a special event at Christmas.  Every recipient is referred to the charity by a recognised agency including; Children’s Services, Guinness Care & Support, family support workers, Southern Domestic Abuse Service and most of the recipients only require help as a one off.

Christmas Hampers

Each year Beacon Food Bank supplies Christmas hampers to the neediest families in the borough and hundreds of strong boxes are needed. This year the food bank didn’t have enough boxes to complete the task and Clockwork Removals came to the rescue just in time by donating 100 strong boxes.  The hampers contained a mixture of basic cupboard staples and Christmas goodies and also all the ingredients needed for a Christmas dinner; turkey, stuffing, potatoes, vegetables and of course some chocolate treats!  Combined with toys donated via the Wave 105 Cash for Kids appeal, every child received presents and the public donated presents for the adults.

The Christmas hampers all went out on Friday 19th December with the help of an army of volunteers and one family met the volunteers at the door with the children shouting “Christmas has arrived!” In the last financial year 1,972 individuals were helped by this fantastic charity, to find out more about how Beacon Food Bank operates or to make a donation please click here for their website.
