DIY Christmas Decorations

Easy Homemade Christmas Decorations

Christmas is just around the corner and it is time to start thinking of decorating our homes. But if you are in-between properties or are in the middle of a renovation you might find that your yuletide decorations are all boxed up in storage. Instead of buying cheap replacements why not embrace the DIY spirit and create your own personalised Christmas decor? Not only is it a fun and creative way to get into the holiday spirit, but it is also eco-friendly too. In this blog, we’ll explore some easy and affordable DIY Christmas decor ideas that will turn your home into a winter wonderland.

Festive Wreaths: Wreaths are a classic Christmas decoration, and making your own allows for endless creativity. You’ll need a wreath base, ribbon, and some festive ornaments to get started. Why not incorporate natural elements like pinecones and holly too – completely sustainable and absolutely free.

Upcycled Decor: Give old items a new lease of life by repurposing them into festive decor. For example, turn an old ladder into a rustic Christmas tree by hanging ornaments and lights on each rung. Jam jars can become charming candle holders or be filled with fairy lights for a warm and inviting glow. Not only is this eco-friendly, but it also adds a touch of vintage charm to your festive decor.

Paper Snowflakes: Embrace the nostalgia of childhood by creating paper snowflakes to adorn your windows. All you need is some white paper and scissors. Experiment with different folding techniques to create unique and intricate designs.

DIY Centrepieces: You can get as creative as you want with your very own bespoke centrepiece. Fill a suitably sized container (vase, dish etc) with lush greenery and then add in some seasonal foliage; holly, pinecones and red berries. Next add in some Christmasy ornaments and battery powered candles. Finally, tie the container base with a pretty ribbon and finish with some festive glitter or fake snow. Voila.

Candle Decor: Decorate plain candles with cinnamon sticks, twine and glitter or design mason jar luminaries with painted holiday scenes. Floating candles in a glass bowl with ornaments, greenery and a touch of sparkle also makes a pretty yet simple addition to your home.

Table Settings: Get creative and make your own Christmas day place cards with festive designs, you only need card and some felt tips! Even better – keep the kids busy during the school holidays and get them to design them for you. Don’t worry about locating those special Santa napkin rings either! Some ribbon, fir sprigs and cinnamon sticks would be just as lovely (and will smell nice too!)

DIY Snow Globes: This might turn out to be a little messy but they are fun for all the family – and are very pretty. Collect up some jam jars and paint on a yuletide scene then fill them with water and glitter for a totally bespoke little snow globe. For a water free alternative, you can glue down some small ornaments in the jar and add in some fake snow.

Transforming your home into a winter wonderland doesn’t have to be expensive or stressful. With a bit of creativity and some simple materials, you can craft beautiful and personalized DIY Christmas decor that will make your home feel warm and festive.
