The Australian Skilled Migration Programme

A Land down underMoving to Australia

The sun has finally come out which spells the start of the unpredictable British summertime. But for those of you who are looking for something a bit more reliable, emigrating to sunnier climes might be your best option.

16% of people emigrating from the UK choose to start a new life in Australia and it has been the most popular country of destination for emigrants from the UK since 1996. In 2012, estimates showed that a whopping 38,000 British citizens had packed their bags and emigrated to Oz and many of them will have gone through the Australian General Skilled Migration (GSM) Programme.

The skills list

The GSM Programme has a skills list reflecting the high value skills Australia is short of, it was announced by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship in May 2010 and is updated annually. Those applying for this programme must have the capabilities and qualifications which fit an occupation on the list and the skills will be assessed before an application for the programme is made. For emigrants with the skills needed in Australia this programme is a fantastic option.
